Psychic Connections from a Dream Perspective
The age old question of life after death could be rephrased as: Does the psyche live when the body dies? This is really what everyone wants to know. We already know that the body returns to the earth.
What happens to the psyche is the real question. It’s kind of hard to explore the question if you don’t take the time to explore the psyche. When you open yourself up to the world of dreams, you are opening yourself to your mind, soul, and spirit.
The psyche is the human soul or spirit, the mind. When something is psychic it is of the mind, soul, and spirit. It is the essence of who we are. Dreaming is a psychic function. Dreams are a fascinating way to explore the capabilities of our own personal psyche. Understanding what the psyche is actually capable of from a dreaming perspective is to actually take personal dream experiences and explore the possible origins of the dream information.
An Early Experience
On August 19, 1998 I had a dream. In this dream I was in a house in Antigua with beautiful back bedrooms. People that I know were there eating chocolate.
I could see a map. The map showed me that there was going to be a terrible earthquake caused by the two sets of rock that Antigua was built on.
I woke to the thought that all I knew about Antigua was that it was an island, and yet it wasn’t an island in my dream.
Was this beyond just a dream?
While researching Antigua, I read that it was indeed an island, but it wasn’t just an island. I was stunned to read that Antigua was also the capital of Guatemala, founded in 1543 and destroyed by an earthquake in the year 1773. Guatemala was originally home to the Mayans. It turns out that the Mayans made and loved chocolate. That was the significance of the chocolate in my dream.
The other big clue in my dream was the earthquake which was shown to be triggered by two sets of rocks. A bit of simple research led me to the information that earthquakes are caused by the movement of plates of rock and metal. In my dream I saw a map of two silver rock formations causing the earthquake in Antigua. I drew a copy of this map in my dream journal.
Connecting my dream with verifiable facts led to my interest in understanding what exactly was happening and how it was possible. Armed with the knowledge of my own personal proof, I became a serious dream explorer and sought out to answer some question about the psyche and dreams.
My Thoughts about the Psyche in the Antigua Dream
Past life?
- My psyche could be tapping in to my own memories that survived my previous death. Is this proof that I lived a past life in Antigua in 1773 and dreamed of it in 1998? Perhaps past lives are a reality and the ability to tap into this type of past memory exists in our dream state? This would mean I actually did live in Antigua in 1773. In this case I would be connecting to my own memories which, in this scenario, would not die with the body. They would be reborn with, yet hidden from the conscious memories of, the new body.
Time travel?
- Could my psyche be traveling on a wave that doesn’t differentiate between past and present? Everything that is and ever was is in the same space. I would, in theory, jump into Antigua in 1773. That doesn’t mean I was there in 1773, in a different body. (Or does it?) Is this proof that it is possible to somehow transcend time and space and connect to this information? Can the human mind in the present occupy the same time or space with a moment from the past? Can it actually move in to the past because time and space do not exist for the spirit? Is it free to wander? Can this be perceived by the mind of a sleeping individual as a dream? In this case my dreaming mind would be experiencing the fact that separation of time and space do not exist.
The future?
- Is this proof that it is possible to see the future and gain the knowledge needed for a dream by watching a future event? My psyche would have gained the knowledge of the Antigua earthquake by watching me, in the future, research Antigua? In this case experiences do not exist in a linear fashion. As in the time travel theory, past, present and future are simply there and available to the dreaming mind. The future experience would have created the “now” dream experience. Now that’s quite a mind boggling thought!
Imprinted record?
- Could my psyche be tapping into a wave, like a television wave, that holds the imprint, the record, of everything that ever was? In this way I could learn about Antigua in 1773. Is this proof that there is a record of everything that exists and has ever existed imprinted on the fabric of space and time? A record that a dreaming mind can connect to and read. Can our dreaming mind watch this record as though it were a movie? Could the reading or the watching of this imprinted record be perceived as a dream? Does a readable record exist of future possibilities; the more coincidences stacking up to make the future probable, the easier it is to read?
Is any of the above really happening and we simply don’t have the ability and proof to answer those questions?
Or, perhaps it’s simply proof that amazing coincidences really do happen?
Thoughts on Coincidence
There are those who will go with the theory that this was all “just a coincidence”, they will dismiss the relevance of the dream to the real historical events. In their understanding of coincidence it would appear as though the events were connected but were actually accidental.
What exactly is a coincidence? To coincide is to occupy the same place in space or occur at the same time. When things coincide figuratively it means that they: are alike; correspond to each other; agree. My dream corresponded to the true facts. It was in agreement with them. This provided the basis for the coincidence.
I find it such a coincidence that the understanding of how these types of dreams are even possible, and the way we experience time and space is the actual basis for things to be coincidental.
Are these dreams really such a coincidence after all?
If they are “only a coincidence,” could life be a series of coincidences that were meant to happen? A series of events that are there for us to see and connect with when our body sleeps and our subconscious psyche awakens to connections overlapping and occurring in the same time and space?
Can I prove anything?
I questioned what this dream could actually be a proof of and threw out a few theories to ponder. The future theory is the one I have the most experience with. I have dreamed future events too often for me to dismiss these as coincidences or impossibilities. Having already written about a few of these situations, rather than rewrite them here, I will simply direct those who are interested to my posts on Deja Vu and Gambling in Dreams. When the actual future happens it leads me to believe that it is no longer a theory, but a proof that it can be done. When you do it, you tend to believe it’s possible!
I can’t “prove” I’ve lived a past life. I can’t “prove” I’m watching an imprinted record. I can’t “prove” that time and space is more than linear. I can’t “prove” to anyone else but myself that I dreamed something before it happened, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Eventually a larger proof occurs as more and more individuals have personal proof. There’s no point in telling people what to believe, it’s much better if they do it on their own and then believe in themselves.

Reality Replayed: Dreaming without symbolism.
Always keep in mind that a dream dictionary defines the symbolic use of the things in your dreams. There is a way we dream that is simply reality replayed. In these instances the symbol would be what it represents in reality. A plate would be a plate, a kitchen would be a kitchen, and a donut would be a donut. Maybe you’re on a diet and you wanted a donut, so you dreamed of eating one! No symbolism was involved; simply a very enjoyable dream. These dreams do not need interpretation, they are what they are.
How to know the difference.
In a reality replayed dream, when you wake up, you will understand the dream and what it meant to you personally.
In a symbolic dream, in most cases, your dream will make no sense to you. This is the type of dream that needs interpretation. You were obviously making use of the symbolic meanings for the physical items in your dream.
Why do we dream in symbols?
Many people theorize that we do this when we aren’t consciously connected to the information. This implies that the language of the subconscious is one of a symbolic nature. Dreaming is only one medium through which the subconscious becomes conscious and in order to understand the information being sent, you need to learn the symbolic dream language.
A problem with the dream language is that it is personal to each individual, and may be hard to decipher.
I have written Dream Journaling posts to help you in your understanding of your personal dream symbols. Also, see my post on Creating a Dream Dictionary.
Does dream information come from any other source?
There are many dream things that defy explanation. Some examples are:
- Dreaming an event that hasn’t yet taken place.
- Dreaming of an event that has taken place that you were physically unaware of.
- Remote viewing in dreams; spiritually traveling to a location which exists in physical reality and bringing back information while you’re dreaming.
- Talking to another person in your dreams and comparing notes the next day to find they talked to you too.
- Receiving information in a dream from someone who is deceased that you couldn’t otherwise have received.
In answering the question, “Does dream information come from any other source?”
I would have to answer, “Yes!”
Exploring these dream capabilities and how they could possibly work is something I find very exciting. How could they possibly come from your subconscious when they weren’t there to begin with? Where did they come from?
Although I love every aspect of dreaming, these unknowns are my favorite areas to ponder. Theory after theory abounds within my head as to why and how these things can occur! If you’re interested in anything of this sort, you can look forward to many more posts on them in the future.
Or, for more information on things of an unexplainable nature, see my posts in Dream Phenomena, or read an example dream near the end of my post Building.
As always, thanks for reading,

Psychic Dreaming
In this dream I received information that was previously unknown to me. I was given a name that was relevant to my current situation.
The dream: I was being given three plates. The front of the plates had a blue design, but it was the back of the plates that was amazing. The back had beautiful artistic work that was signed by George Steiner. These plates were very valuable.
Upon waking, I wondered if there was really a person named George Steiner, so I Googled him. Sure enough, there was. The thing that stood out the most was the fact that, in 1975, he had written a book titled After Babel – a book about language and translation.
The Interpretation of My Dream
Plates: Symbolize what is “on my plate” at this time. What I’m currently working on is this blog site.
Blue design on the front: Symbolize my blog design in blue.
Three plates: Symbolize the interconnectedness of the three blogs I plan on writing in the future.
Artistic design on back: Symbolizes the importance of what’s behind the obvious. What is “backing up” the blog is what is valuable.
What was given to me psychically: George Steiner’s After Babel, a book about language and translation, symbolizes that the translation of the language of dreams has value.
An interesting note here, without giving away the context of the next two blogs, is that for the title of one of them, I was considering
“Babel-on.”
Interconnectedness of Everything
From a skeptic’s point of view:
Skeptics will say that I must have been familiar with George Steiner. They’d argue that I could have read a bit about him in a magazine 20 years ago and still have that memory somewhere in my subconscious. How can anyone argue against this point? I may not have read something, ever, but it’d be impossible to argue that I didn’t read it if a skeptic uses this type of logic. I simply wouldn’t be able to deny ever having read anything! I must therefore give the skeptics their due.
From an explorer’s point of view:
What would be really nice is if the skeptics suspended their doubt against anything learned psychically, and gave the rest of us our due! Believe in the possibility that nothing about George Steiner was ever read before the dream knowledge was given. How then did I dream his name in the correct context? How did I dream his name at all?
When someone believes that something is impossible, they believe this as their truth. They don’t open up to the possibility that they are wrong. Therefore they will never explore the seemingly impossible. If every scientific mind out there were so closed minded, the world would be bereft of all sorts of wonderful inventions and genuine knowledge.
Those of us who are explorers, in the world of the seemingly impossible, are pioneers. We join together in exploring a world filled with the amazing truths of what we, as human beings, are capable of. My area of exploration is centered on dreams. We, as a society, have been taught, and continue to be taught, that dreams are not reality and that they should be dismissed as nonsense. Do we so easily dismiss the opportunity to delve in to our inner selves? We are more than what people see.
Can we also do more than what people realize? The answer is a resounding, “Yes!” Exploring what we can do and integrating the knowledge in to the mainstream is a key to more psychic knowledge becoming available. Proof suspends disbelief. The more people who dream something they couldn’t know in their waking life, the more people believe in the truth of what we’re capable of knowing from our dreams.
In Conclusion
The reason I am sharing my experiences with you, is not to show you what I can do, but to show you what you can do. How we can do this is a complete mystery to me. The world, and how we are connected to each other, is obviously filled with a tremendous amount of untapped knowledge. Hence the reason for the need to explore!

Identity: Are you the actor or the watcher?
Connecting with the identity in your dream will give you another perspective from which to analyze your dream. Normally when you awake from a dream you give very little thought to who you were in the dream. You will just assume that you were you, but were you really? The question you need to ask yourself is: Where am I in this dream?
One way to determine who and where you were in your dream is to think of your dream as a movie.
First: The Actor
When you are the actor in your dream you will have a sense of performing the action. You experience things as though you were looking out through your own eyes. You feel yourself reaching out to open a door, or give someone a hug. In this case the identity would be centered in you as the actor.
As the actor, you could also be someone, or something, else. You could be having these experiences as a stranger, or even an act of nature. For example, in one of my dreams, my identity was centered in a tornado. I was living my dream experience as a tornado.
Second: The Watcher
When you are watching the movie you will see everything that is going on from some vantage point. You’ll have a sense of watching the action; of seeing the dream. You might even see yourself in the dream – watching the action that your physical dream-body is doing, but not experiencing the action through that body.
An example: My son had a dream in which he was watching himself looking at goldfish in a tank. He then transitioned into his dream-body and experienced himself talking to a sick fish in the tank, which subsequently healed and smiled at him. His dream began with him being the watcher, and then transitioned to him being the actor.
As I said in the beginning, identifying with the dream, the “knowing where you are” in the dream, adds another way of analyzing your dream. The fact that you are performing the action or watching the action can make a huge difference.
Analysis – The Actor
Here are some important points about being The Actor:
- Most of the time, this dream is about you personally.
- Start your analysis from the perspective that this dream is about you.
- Concentrate on remembering what you were thinking and feeling while you were dreaming.
- In this type of dream, you will find that you have an added ability to remember the thoughts and feelings you had as the dreamer.
- This can be tremendously helpful when you figure out what personal life situation you are dreaming about! (I will talk about how to do this in my next post – Journal.)
While the dream is normally about you personally, there’s a very rare chance that you are experiencing the dream action through someone else’s eyes. I know this sounds strange, but this encompasses psychic dreaming. If you find yourself having these types of dreams, and the only way to know this is when the other person confirms they were doing what you were dreaming, you’ll need to study psychic dreaming in more depth.
Analysis – The Watcher
Now, here are the important points about being The Watcher:
- Most of the time when you’re watching the dream action, the dream is still about you.
- Almost all of your dreams will be about you and things that are going on in your life.
- Dreams provide a connection between your inner self and your outer experiences.
- When you are watching the action, you are trying to see and understand a situation. You would, therefore, begin you self-analysis from this point of view.
- The main question should be: What am I trying to show myself?
- Another good question would be: What am I trying to understand?
- If you believe in communication from others, you could ask yourself: What is someone else trying to communicate to me with this dream?
- If you believe in remote viewing in dreams, you could ask yourself: What am I seeing here? Why am I seeing it? What relevance does it have to my life?
- When you believe in psychic dreaming you need to ask even more questions: Am I seeing a future event? Am I dreaming about me, or someone else?
Whereas an acting dream tends to be more intensely personal, a watching dream opens up to many different possibilities. To me, dreams are connectors between: thought and action, heaven and earth, the spiritual and the physical, and everyone and everything. They are powerful tools which can be used and built upon. The better people are at learning about and controlling their dreams, the more they can achieve within them. Lucid dreaming would be an example of this.
Lucidity in Dreams
The reason I mention lucid dreaming, being aware that you are dreaming while still in the dream, in this post is because understanding your identity in a dream is one way in which you can take the first step to lucidity. The more you think about yourself and where you are in a dream, the more you’ll connect with the dream, and the better chance you’ll have of realizing you are dreaming. Think of yourself as 2 parts of a consciousness. One part is your awake consciousness and the other part is the asleep consciousness.
What I actually mean when I say you’re more connected with the dream is that your awake self and your dream self are both present in your dream. They have to be in order for you to realize that you are dreaming. Your awake self is the one who realizes this fact, not your dreaming self. The more connected your dreaming self and your awake self are, the better dream recall you will have, because, of course, it is your awake self who remembers the dream. This will then open up different perspectives, better dream recall, and better journaling. Your analysis will have more depth and be more complete.
You can be connected and aware that you are dreaming as both the actor and the watcher. The simple act of thinking about yourself, your identity, in the dream is what creates the possibility of waking up your awake self into the dream!
I sincerely hope that I gave you something to think about here that will enhance your dream recall and enjoyment, and allow you to experience the feeling of being personally involved while in your dreams. Open yourself to the possibilities.
Simply because a blind man can’t see is not proof that sight does not exist.
Happy dreaming and thanks for reading!
