Reality Replayed: Dreaming without symbolism.

Always keep in mind that a dream dictionary defines the symbolic use of the things in your dreams. There is a way we dream that is simply reality replayed. In these instances the symbol would be what it represents in reality. A plate would be a plate, a kitchen would be a kitchen, and a donut would be a donut. Maybe you’re on a diet and you wanted a donut, so you dreamed of eating one! No symbolism was involved; simply a very enjoyable dream. These dreams do not need interpretation, they are what they are.

How to know the difference.

In a reality replayed dream, when you wake up, you will understand the dream and what it meant to you personally.

In a symbolic dream, in most cases, your dream will make no sense to you. This is the type of dream that needs interpretation. You were obviously making use of the symbolic meanings for the physical items in your dream.

Why do we dream in symbols?

Many people theorize that we do this when we aren’t consciously connected to the information. This implies that the language of the subconscious is one of a symbolic nature. Dreaming is only one medium through which the subconscious becomes conscious and in order to understand the information being sent, you need to learn the symbolic dream language.

A problem with the dream language is that it is personal to each individual, and may be hard to decipher.

I have written Dream Journaling posts to help you in your understanding of your personal dream symbols. Also, see my post on Creating a Dream Dictionary.

Does dream information come from any other source?

There are many dream things that defy explanation.  Some examples are:

  • Dreaming an event that hasn’t yet taken place.
  • Dreaming of an event that has taken place that you were physically unaware of.
  • Remote viewing in dreams; spiritually traveling to a location which exists in physical reality and bringing back information while you’re dreaming.
  • Talking to another person in your dreams and comparing notes the next day to find they talked to you too.
  • Receiving information in a dream from someone who is deceased that you couldn’t otherwise have received.

In answering the question, “Does dream information come from any other source?”

I would have to answer, “Yes!”

Exploring these dream capabilities and how they could possibly work is something I find very exciting. How could they possibly come from your subconscious when they weren’t there to begin with? Where did they come from?

Although I love every aspect of dreaming, these unknowns are my favorite areas to ponder. Theory after theory abounds within my head as to why and how these things can occur! If you’re interested in anything of this sort, you can look forward to many more posts on them in the future.

Or, for more information on things of an unexplainable nature, see my posts in Dream Phenomena, or read an example dream near the end of my post Building.

As always, thanks for reading,

Michelle

Déjà Vu

The official definition of déjà vu is the illusion of having already experienced a situation that is actually happening for the first time. This phenomenon involves an intense feeling that you’ve already experienced the exact situation and even said the exact words before, and yet you know you haven’t. It feels really bizarre! Now, imagine being in a situation, experiencing a feeling of déjà vu, and then realizing that you were actually living the dream you had the night before. Now there’s a situation for analysis if ever there was one!

My personal experience with déjà vu:

One day, about 10 years ago, I was at a mall that I’d never been to before. Everywhere I looked I was seeing things, and people, that felt familiar. Even the question my friend just asked me felt so familiar that I asked her if she had just asked me that!

My “lightbulb” moment; a moment of complete understanding, was when the dresses on the mannequins at the mall were the exact dresses from my dream. I had actually experienced this trip to the mall, only it was in last night’s dream, hence the feeling of déjà vu!

A few of the questions I began asking myself were:

Could what people experience as deja vu actually be caused by an unremembered dream?

How could I possibly have dreamed the situation when it hadn’t even happened yet? That would mean I was dreaming the future, right?

Am I dreaming future possibilities, highly probable events, or events in time that are set in stone?

What else can happen while sleeping?

To answer these questions, I began writing down every dream I had.

If this was going to happen again, I wanted written proof. Some part of me realized that something big was happening here, although I didn’t quite know what it was yet. I was at the beginning of a realization that dreams are more than nonsensical thoughts that we entertain ourselves with while we’re sleeping.

I had a wonderful dream therapist who helped me to realize that I was attempting to validate myself. I couldn’t very well speak something as a truth when even I found it hard to believe! I’m one of those people who believe in possibilities and seek proofs.

I began to realize that I dreamed the future on a regular basis. I am not asking you to believe me, simply believe in the possibility and seek your own proofs. The importance of my experiences is that they lead to yours. What good is it if I stand alone with this knowledge and the rest of the world doesn’t know that this is possible?

Dreaming the future is not a unique ability. Most people that I talk to who are seriously studying their dreams will tell me about dreaming of an event that hadn’t yet happened. Skeptics will say you’ve dreamed it because it was on your mind. One very important fact they should consider is the physical item, which you’ve never seen before, that is in your dream before you see it in reality, such as the dresses on the mannequins from the above example.

That still doesn’t say how this is possible! Obviously, there is some mechanism at work while you’re sleeping. Let’s go with the truth that while your physical body is lying immobile, your mind is extremely active. It’s running around doing all kinds of things! It’s even, according to the traditional understanding of time, running ahead of your physical body. Or is it? Maybe your mind is sitting still and “some energy” is showing you a film of your future, a type of projection. Maybe this “energy” is such that your mind can enter the movie, so that it feels as though you are experiencing the events. It appears that your mental body, while you are sleeping, is able to go into the future, or a projection of the future, and see things that haven’t yet occurred. In my dream word energy, I’ll go into more depth with these notions.

The next question was if this dream of the future was set in stone, or if it was just one future possibility? I can only theorize that answer based upon my experiences. I have found that sometimes the event happens and sometimes it doesn’t. The event is, therefore, a possibility, rather than a set in stone event. If it were set in stone it would always happen!

For instance, last night I had a dream in which my best friend was in a minor car accident. I actually saw the right side of her car crushed along the whole length. Quickly, I called to warn her to be extra careful. In these instances one of two things happens. The first is that she has the accident, and consequently believes in the ability of dreams to see into the future. The second is that there is not an accident in sight! In this instance there is no proof that an accident was even a possibility. This could mean that free- will choices brought another outcome or that there never was going to be an accident in the first place.

Many dreams of accidents are symbolic. By that I mean, to dream of an accident to ones’ car can be an accident to ones physical body, etc. Believe me; things get very complicated in dreams! (As it turned out my friend was “wrecking” her body!)

My theory, therefore, is that there are many possible futures for our minds to see in our dreams. I also believe that the closer something is to probability, the easier it is to see in a dream. A future scenario needs everyone’s free will and free choice options to coincide to produce a particular reality (synchronicity). When you dream a probable future and someone else’s choices change the event, then that future doesn’t happen.

For instance, using the above dream example, if the person driving the other car involved in the potential accident decides not to drive that day, the accident doesn’t happen. It’s that simple; which is why I feel that the future can’t be predicted using dreams. The future is not set in stone. It seems to me to be always in a state of possibility, based upon choices, and yet it’s already there to see in dreams.

Does the human mind use the time when the body is asleep to allow the freedom to check into future possibilities? How wonderfully amazing is that? For those of you who think this is nonsense, give it a try. Believe in the possibility of dreaming the future, and when you actually do it, you will believe in the truth of dreaming the future. In the meantime, keep analyzing your dreams, in hope that they broaden your horizons, helping to realize what the human mind is truly capable of. Keep in mind, when you next experience déjà vu, you could be remembering a dream!
